Technology Law Program

The Technology Law Program combines coursework in the fields of technology law, intellectual property law, and business law. It provides J.D. students with the skills necessary to succeed in today's rapidly-changing legal environment. Distinguished professors and practitioners offer courses on subjects such as telecommunications policy, cybercrime, intellectual property protection, and venture capital formation. The law school envisions graduates of the program working as associates for law firms that serve high-technology clients, as in-house counsel for Internet start-up companies, as attorneys for federal and state regulatory agencies with jurisdiction over technology industries, and as entrepreneurs and business leaders.

The Technology Law Program is open to all law students.

Students pursuing the Technology Law Program will be required to complete the following requirements:

• 15 hours of required courses in business and intellectual property law
• 8 hours of technology law electives
• 6 hours of business law electives or 6 hours of intellectual property law electives
• 40 credit hours in required General Law Program courses
• 20 credit hours in other electives

Students will begin the specialty technology courses during the first semester of their second year of study, following completion of their first year of required courses.
