|General Description:||This interactive course introduces students to the theory and practice of negotiation in our legal system. We will examine various aspects of legal negotiations, including strategy, ethics, communication, case valuation, the psychology of bargaining, collaborative lawyering, dispute resolution, deal-making and creative problem-solving. Students will develop negotiating skills and improve their understanding of the negotiation process by participating in simulations, analyzing bargaining behavior, discussing negotiation concepts and receiving critique. Grades are based on class participation and application of skills; two short papers analyzing specific negotiations; and one 10-page paper due at the end of the semester. The class is limited to 16 students. Class attendance is required. Note: Students must attend the first class in order to be enrolled.|
