Why Give?

The Alumni Challenge

Why Give?

Whether you can give $50 or $5,000, your gift will make a difference. Larger gifts may afford you the opportunity to honor an individual, business or organization with the naming of a scholarship, professorship or space at the law school. However you give to the School of Law, you also will be helping us achieve our goal of raising our alumni giving participation rates while supporting students, ideas and the institution.

Supporting Students

Students listen to professor in classroomIn the competitive world of law school admissions, it is essential that the grant and scholarship support given by Mason Law is on par with that offered by our direct competitors, which provide an average of 85% more in grant and scholarship support per student than Mason Law. While our tuition remains one of the lowest public law school tuitions for in-state and out-of-state students in the country, even Mason Law has had to increase tuition over the last several years to keep pace with diminishing state investment.

Your School of Law contributions will help us:

  • Recruit and retain the most talented and diverse law students from Virginia and across the nation;
  • Expand much needed student services and academic support; and
  • Ensure that Mason Law remains an affordable law school option for all.

    Daniel Hennessy, JD Candidate ’08“After I received Mason’s scholarship offer, I knew it was the right school for me. It was the critical factor in my decision to come here, and in the face of rising costs, it’s what has enabled me to stay at Mason.”

Supporting Ideas

An assortment of law journals and publicationsIncreased alumni giving rates will send a clear message to large corporate and private donors who are interested in faculty and research centers that Mason Law is a worthwhile investment.

Your School of Law participation gift will help:

  • Enhance our clinical programs and research centers;
  • Attract and retain premier faculty;
  • Expand course offerings; and
  • Lower our faculty/student ratio, a critical factor in law school quality.

Supporting the Institution

Overhead view of the law libraryMason’s endowment is one-eighth the size of the average law school endowment, while our primary competitors tout endowments more than 16 times the size of Mason Law’s.

The size of a law school’s endowment is frequently viewed as a barometer of its relative strength. Growing Mason Law’s endowment will enhance this perception and help put us on equal financial footing with our primary competitors.

Your gifts to the School of Law will help
