Civil Rights Law Journal Election Law Symposium
October 23, 2008, 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Jones Day - 7th Floor Conference Facilities
51 Louisiana Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20001
The Civil Rights Law Journal, with sponsor Jones Day, is hosting Congressman Tom Davis as the keynote speaker at this year's symposium on Election Law. This timely program will address the Federal Government's intervention into state-run elections and the legal issues that may result, especially in the wake of Bush v. Gore; the future of campaign finance regulation, focusing on the regulation of independent advertising, restrictions on lobbyists, bundling, enforcement, and public financing of campaigns in light of current laws; and the constitutionality of the 2006 Voting Rights Act Reauthorization under cases such as NW Austin Municipal Utility District v. Gonzales and Marion v. Crawford County Election Board, as well as recent challenges to Arizona state law that requires residents show proof of citizenship when registering to vote.
The event is free of charge and is approved for 3 Virginia CLE credits. For specific information and updates, please visit the symposium website at http://www.law.gmu.edu/gmucrlj/symposium.php or contact Symposium Editor Joanna Sherry at jsherry@gmu.edu.
