George Mason's Law Faculty Ranks in Top 25 in New Study
on Scholarship
According to the 2003-04 New Educational Quality Ranking
of U.S. Law Schools (EQR), the George Mason School of
Law's faculty ranks 23rd among all American law schools
for scholarly impact. The EQR, which is published
by Professor Brian Leiter, measures scholarly impact by
calculating the frequency with which other scholars refer
to the faculty's publications and books on a per capita
basis. "Leiter's methodology is the best available
tool for locating and measuring the academic strength of
law schools. We are very pleased to have the quality of
our program recognized in ths way," says Associate
Dean Dan Polsby.
In March 2003, Professor Leiter released a related survey
that ranks the Law School's faculty 9th in quality
in Law & Economics, 20th in Business Law, and
21st in Administrative and Environmental Law. This survey
also found that the George Mason law faculty ranked 26th
overall in professional reputation.
Professor Brian Leiter -- Joseph D. Jamail Centennial Chair
in Law, Professor of Philosophy, and Director of the Law
& Philosophy Program at the University of Texas at Austin
-- has published the EQR since 1997. The EQR
ranks law schools using various measures of student and
