CurriculumGeorge Mason's IP curriculum includes numerous courses in patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret law. The curriculum includes traditional IP courses such as Patent Law and Copyright Law as well as more advanced IP courses such as Chemical and Biotechnology Patent Practice. The Intellectual Property Law Track, which was created in 1987, is the centerpiece of the IP curriculum. It requires students to take approximately one-third of their credit hours in IP courses. The remaining credit hours are distributed across a variety of subject areas, ensuring substantial breadth and depth in a student's legal education. More than 100 students are enrolled in the Intellectual Property Law Track, making it the most popular specialization at the law school. Graduates of the Intellectual Property Law Track work at national general-practice law firms, boutique IP law firms, corporations, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. For students interested in technology law, George Mason offers the Technology Law Program, a 29-credit-hour concentration within the JD program that features courses in technology law, IP law, and business law.
