of Others Before the United States Patent and Trademark
Office”
A Comparison Of the Proposed PTO Rules and Virginia’s
Current Ethics Rules and An Overview of PTO Disciplinary
Process
The proposed rule changes published by the Patent and
Trademark Office in the Federal Register of December 12,
2003, if adopted, will inaugurate major changes for all
patent practitioners who are registered to practice before
the Patent & Trademark Office. This seminar will explore
the practical issues presented by the proposed rules and
the areas of overlap and conflict between the proposed
PTO ethics rules and Virginia's Rules of Professional
Conduct.
In addition, the seminar will provide an overview and
comparison of the procedures utilized by the U.S. Patent
& Trademark Office and Virginia for disciplining lawyers.
