Introduction
This two-day intensive seminar will acquaint
the U.S. patent practitioner with both the basic and more
advanced principles of patent protection in Europe, including
national protection, protection in the European Patent Office,
and likely revisions and additions to the European scene,
including EPO revisions and the future Community patent.

The Speakers
Rainer A. Kuhnen, is a founding partner of the Kuhnen
& Wacker Patent Law Firm, P.C. in Freising (Munich),
Germany. Mr. Kuhnen specializes in patent prosecution,
litigation and mergers & acquisitions. He was
awarded a Diplom-Ingenieur in mechanical engineering from
the Technical University of Munich, and was qualified as
a patent attorney in 1974. He is a member of the European
Patent Institute, FICPI, LES and ABA, among others, and
is frequently invited to lecture on German and European
Patent Practice by U.S., Japanese and Chinese law firms
and schools. Mr. Kuhnen was the responsible attorney
in the landmark European "Epilady v. Remington"
case.
Dr. Heribert Munsterer is head of the chemical department
of Kuhnen & Wacker and specializes in polymer and life-science
technology. Dr. Munsterer was awarded the degree of
Diplom-Chemiker (chemistry) in 1979, a Ph.D. in 1981, and
qualified as a patent attorney in 1986. He is a member
of the European Patent Institute, FICPI and LES, among others.
He also is a registered U.S. patent agent, and has a position
in the United States for comparative studies of U.S. patent
practice.
We are also proud to have James Allan Forstner,
PhD (chem), J.D., as a guest speaker during this program.
Dr. Forstner is Of Counsel to the Kuhnen & Wacker Law
Firm, and has more than 30 years of experience at E.I. DuPont
de Nemours working on international IP matters. He
finished his career as Corporate Counsel and Managing Counsel
for DuPont. He is a member of the ABA, AIPLA, and
the U.S. Council for International Business, among others,
and served on and chaired many committees and boards of
those organizations. Also, he served as a member or
chair of the U.S. Bar/EPO and U.S. Bar/JPO Liaison Councils
and the U.S. C.I.S. Bar Association. He will give
an overview of strategies in international patent enforcement.

The seminar will be held in the lecture rooms of the George
Mason University School of Law, 3301 North Fairfax Drive,
Arlington, Virginia, 22201. The law school is two blocks
