Second Annual Symposium on Hot Topics in Patent Law

On July 15, 2003, George Mason School of Law hosted its Second Annual Symposium on"Hot Topics In Patent Law," co-sponsored by the intellectual property law firm of Banner & Witcoff. The speakers at this day-long event included four federal judges, as well as James Rogan, the Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Over seventy people attended from law firms and corporations across the mid-atlantic region. Below are photographs from the event, presented together with a list of speakers. Honorable Edward Damich and Bradley C. Wright Bradley C. Wright (on the right) served as Symposium Coordinator for the Second Annual Hot Topics in Patent Law. Wright was also the day's first speaker, presenting the Mid-Year Developments in Patent Law. He graduated from the George Mason University School of Law in 1994.

Pictured on the left is the Honorable Edward Damich, Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Judge Damich presented an afternoon session entitled Litigating Patent Cases in the Court of Federal Claims.

The Honorable James Rogan (pictured on the left), Undersecretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Rogan delivered the lunch address during the symposium. Seated in the right of the photo is Wayne Paugh (GMU Class of 2000), Rogan's Chief of Staff.

*Honorable Pauline Newman, Circuit Judge, Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Law at George Mason University moderated an afternoon panel discussion on the topic of Best Practices for Litigating Patent Cases*.

Honorable William C. Conner (to the left), Senior Judge, United States District Court, Southern District of New York was on the panel together with the Honorable S. Jay Plager, Senior Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Law at George Mason University.
