Virginia Bar Association Section of IP Law Career Panel and Reception, Date and Time TBA
GMU CAAS and the IPLS are working on inviting a number of IP practitioners, especially those making the transitions from large-firm to small-firm IP practice and those making the transition from the USPTO to firm practice to speak on a number of issues related to the IP career market. After the panel speaks, a small reception will be held at the law school at which students can interact with the speakers.

Giles Sutherland Rich IP Moot Court Competition, January 17, 2008, 8AM to 4PM at the Law School
Each year, GMU School of Law hosts an Intramural Competition to determine which teams will advance to the Regional and, hopefully, the National Rounds of the AIPLA's Giles S. Rich Memorial IP Moot Court Competition. This year was our most successful intramural competition in recent years, as seven teams participated and both the briefs and oral argmuents were well-presented and scoring was close. Congratulations to the following teams which will advance to Boston and represent GMU in the Regional Round:
Team 1: Rebecca Harker & Jonathan Tuminaro
Team 2: Mark Donahey and Andrew Lyons
Next year, we hope to attract an even larger field of competitors at the Intramural Rounds so that we can send the best possible teams to compete nationally.

AIPLA Job Fair Reception, October 25, 2008, 4-7P.M., Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, DC
This event is an excellent opportunity for students interested in IP to network with numerous IP practitioners from national firms participating in AIPLA's annual job fair. Interested students should attend this event whether they are participating in the Job Fair or not. Food and drinks will be served.

Finnegan Henderson Career Panel
Our VP of Speakers, Anna Balichina, is a Law Clerk in Finnegan's office and has been soliciting interest from her colleagues to speak in a panel forum about careers in IP, as well as job search and interviewing tips. Finnegan attorneys have been speaking at GMUSL annually for several years and their panels are always informative. As soon as we set a date for the event, that information will be posted here.

Introductory Meeting, September 10, 2008, 5-6P.M., Room 120
At this meeting, the group discussed the upcoming Giles Rich Moot Court Competition. The Intramural Round will be held in January, and the Problem will be released by AIPLA in early October 2008. Other events were also discussed. Meeting minutes will be posted soon.

This year, we anticipate reaching out to professionals from multiple law firms and the USPTO to speak on a variety of career-related issues. In addition, other speakers with varying perspectives on the IP field will be invited to host events at GMUSL.
