The Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition, spoonsored by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers
    Subject: Copyright - This competition is open to 3rd year students and, at the discretion of the Dean, to 2nd year students as well. The Dean may certify up to two entries into this competition. Students are to submit papers to the Dean, who is to determine first and second place papers for submission to the ASCAP Competition. The Dean may also submit one or no papers, depending on merit. For submitted papers, the first-place prize at each school is $600, and the second place prize is $250. Additional prizes are awarded by ASCAP on a national level. Robert C. Watson Award, sponsored by AIPLA
    Subject: Protection of Intellectual Property - This competition is open to any student who authors a paper displaying original thought on the subject of IP Protection. Although the submission deadline for this year's competition is closed, it is very likely that the competition will occur next year as well, with a submission deadline on or around June 30, 2009. Winner receives the Watson Award of $2,000. Details are available on the AIPLA website.

Ladas Memorial Award, sponsored by the International Trademark Association
    Subject: Trademarks, or trademark related matters - The Ladas Memorial Award is given to the best-judged student paper on the subject of Trademarks or matters directly affecting Trademarks. The winning prize is $2,000, plus travel and a lodging stipend of up to $1,000 to attend INTA's Annual Gala, held last year in Berlin. Virginia State Bar - IP Section
    The VSB IP Section recently began an IP writing contest for law students. Information for the 2008-2009 edition of the competition will be posted to the VSB IP Section website soon.
