Borrowing Materials from Other Libraries
Do you need a book or article that is not available at the George Mason Law Library? Are you a member of the faculty, student body or staff of the George Mason Law School? If so, then this page has the resources that you need. Before requesting anything that is not owned by the law library, please review the following options.

There are three options for obtaining books and articles that are not available at the George Mason Law Library. Please check for books and articles from each source in order:
- InterCampus Lending for materials available at other George Mason libraries
- Consorium Loan Service for materials owned by the Washington Research Library Consortium
- Interlibrary Loan for materials that are not available from either of the two options above.
InterCampus Lending Service (ICL)
Use this service for obtaining books from other George Mason libraries (Fenwick, Johnson Center, Prince William).
To make a request:
- Locate the item you want in the George Mason library catalog. Note the author, title, call number (and volume/page number for articles).
- Complete a request using the ILLiad Document Delivery service. Log in using your GMU login name and email password.
- You will be notified when your item is available for pick up. Please note, books will be delivered to the Arlington Campus Library, which is located across the parking lot on the ground floor of the original, brick building.
Turnaround time is usually 2-3 days. More information can be found on the University Library's web site.
Consortium Loan Service (CLS)
Use this method for obtaining books from other academic libraries in the Washington, D.C. area. Please note, books will be delivered to the Arlington Campus Library, which is located across the parking lot on the ground floor of the original, brick building. This service is provide by the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC). Turnaround time is usually 2-3 days.
What can be requested from WRLC?
- Circulation items that are not checked out
- Photocopies of articles not exceeding 50 pages (delivered electronically or in print)
What cannot be requested from WRLC?
- Items from the Law Libraries at American University, Georgetown University and George Mason University
- Reserve items
- Reference items
- Special collection items
- Media items (DVDs, CDs, etc.)
How do I request something from WRLC?
- Search for the needed item in the WRLC (ALADIN) catalog.
- Click on the link for the needed item.
- From the detailed item record, click on the Request button at the top of your screen.
- When prompted, enter your G number and last name.
- Fill in the form, being sure to specify the pick up location as George Mason-Arlington.
- Click on the Submit Request button at the bottom of the form.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
The Law Library provides interlibrary loan service for the faculty, staff and students of the School of Law. Turnaround time is usually 5-7 days. Use this service only if:
- the item needed is not available at any Mason library
- the item needed is not available via WRLC
- you don't know who owns the item needed
To make an ILL request, fill out the ILL Form and email it to lawcirc@gmu.edu.
