Activating Your GMU Email Account


GMU Email Activation Instructions

Once you are registered for classes, your GMU email account will be automatically generated. Before you use this account for the first time, you must activate it in order to obtain a username and password. Below are brief instructions on how to do this.

Start at the email login page: http://mail.gmu.edu and click "Activating My Account".

Next you will see the email activation screen. Here enter your GMU Student ID Number (“G Number”) and your 6-digit PIN number and click “Submit Request”. -- If you have not used or changed your PIN previously, the default is your birth date: mmddyy - with leading zeros. For example, if you were born on May 7, 1975 your PIN would be 050775.

NOTE: You should have received your G number from the Law School Admissions Office. Also, your social security number (without hyphens) will work to activate your email account. However, it is very helpful to know your student G Number, as this is the primary access number for numerous services on campus.

Follow the remaining instructions to access your account. You will be assigned a temporary password (be sure to write it down), which you will be prompted to change once you log on to the system.

Changing Your Password

To change your email password once you have logged in, select "Options" in the top of the browser window and then click on "Password" in the left menu. NOTE: This page will not display correctly in Internet Explorer 7. Use Netscape or Firefox instead.

Your email address will look like this: username@gmu.edu, e.g. dsmith@gmu.edu.

It is important that every student check his/her GMU email account, as it is used for many law school communications. You have the option of forwarding your mail to another account, but it is imperative that you have a way to check this system. There are computers in the public areas of the law library and in the labs that can be used to check GMU email accounts. You can use these once you arrive on campus.

Forwarding Your GMU Email

To forward your email to another account, login and choose the tab for "Options" and then click on Setting (left menu). Enter the email address that you want your GMU forwarded to. NOTE: This page will not display correctly in Internet Explorer 7. Use Netscape or Firefox instead.
