Government Documents

GPO The Federal Depository Library Program was established in the mid 1800s to collect, organize, and preserve information published by the Federal Government in all formats including print, microform, maps, CD-ROMs, and electronic information via the Internet. Selective depositories do not receive all information published by the Federal Government (the largest publisher in the world) but select materials which reflect the needs of their primary clientele. Regional depositories receive all federally published information through the Depository Program. There are more than 1,350 depository libraries in the United States and its territories to serve the public. Go to Locate Federal Depository Libraries by State or Area Code to locate libraries in your area.

The George Mason University  Law Library is a selective depository for federal government documents and many of the documents are interspersed throughout the library's larger research collection. The Law Library is open seven days a week (with some posted exceptions) to members of the public and bar doing legal research or research with government documents. A reference librarian is available during select hours to assist with research questions.  The documents are shelved on the first floor in Row 109-110.  The microfiche is on the first floor in the microform room.
