Profile

Professor of Law & Economics Thomas W. Hazlett joined the George Mason University faculty in Fall 2005. In addition to his duties as a professor, Hazlett directs the Information Economy Project at the National Center for Technology and Law.

Professor Hazlett is an internationally recognized expert on telecommunications policy. He has published widely in economics journals, law reviews, and popular periodicals, and he is currently a columnist for the Financial Times' New Technology Policy Forum. He frequently provides expert testimony to the courts, government agencies, and the U.S. Congress, and has served as a consultant to public and private organizations throughout the world.

Professor Hazlett received his PhD in Economics from U.C.L.A. and has held faculty positions at the University of California, Davis, Columbia University, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  In 1991-92, he served as Chief Economist of the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C.

He teaches Economic Foundations of Legal Studies and Telecom and Internet: Strategy & Policy.
