Professor Katzen Provides Capitol Hill Testimony
Professor Sally Katzen, former deputy director for management
at OMB during the Clinton administration, urged the House
Judiciary Committee's Commercial & Administrative Law Subcommittee
to send a privacy bill to the full Judiciary Committee after a May 17
hearing in which she spoke in favor of efforts to reassure Americans
about privacy concerns, saying "Given the importance of privacy and
its persistence in the national debate, it is somewhat surprising that
this Administration has been so reluctant to address the nation's
concerns." The bill, which requires federal agencies to consider the impact of rules on issues of individual privacy, was subsequently sent to the full committee for action.
