Video Viewing: ACLU's Freedom Files, November 6
In anticipation of the upcoming election, the ACLU-GMU invites you to a
viewing of two of the ACLU's Freedom Files, which are short thirty
minute documentaries portraying civil rights issues. The first, titled
Gay/Lesbian Rights , portrays the impact that current laws have on
gay/lesbian couples. As you know, Virginia is proposing a
Constitutional Amendment that would write its current statutory ban on
gay/lesbian marriage into its state constitution. Virginia voters will
vote on the Amendment on Election Day. The second, titled Voting
Rights, shows the effect that voting laws have had on minorities and
convicted felons and the struggles that American citizens have faced
throughout history when trying to exercise their voting rights.
Pizza and soda will be provided!
