James Tucker is Policy Counsel for the First Amendment in the ACLU's National Legislative Office. Mr. Tucker was a former senior trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University, where he has taught seminars on constitutional and civil rights law, including a First Amendment course exploring liberty and security in the United States post-9/11.
Mr. Tucker is a decorated Air Force veteran and commissioned officer who served in combat operations during Desert Storm operations in the Persian Gulf. He is in the active reserves as an assistant staff judge advocate (JAG).
