Zengerle Receives Army Commendation

Professor Joseph Zengerle, Executive Director of the law school's Clinic for Legal Assistance to Servicemembers (CLAS), received a U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute Commendation for his efforts as a United States Army veteran who has continued to exhibit patriotism and service to the Army.

Zengerle was nominated for the award by COL Chris Owens, a client for whom clinic participant Robert May (4E) secured a significant judgment under the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act last August after a bench trial in Arlington General District Court.

The Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff created The Freedom Team Salute Commendation program in 2005 to honor Army veterans and to provide a method by which soldiers might recognize those who support their efforts. Zengerle was given a letter of commendation signed by the Army Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Army, as well as a certificate and lapel pin in recognition of the honor.
