Byrne Chairs Letter of Credit Law Summit and Standby and Guarantee Forum

In October 2010, Professor James E. Byrne chaired the Institute of International Banking Law & Practice’s 11th Letter of Credit Law Summit and 5th Standby & Guarantee Forum. Hosted by multinational law firm Bingham McCutchen at its Park Avenue location in Manhattan, the Letter of Credit Law Summit and Standby & Guarantee Forum brought together over 100 top lawyers, bankers, and businesspeople to discuss legal and practical issues in letters of credit and independent guarantees for these two one-day sessions. George Mason University School of Law was a co-sponsor for both of the events.

Present for the 22 October Standby & Guarantee Forum were Mason Law 1L’s Michael Lew and Lin Yang, and 2L Josh Chamberlain, who are interns at the Institute. Yang and Chamberlain, who are assisting in the translation of Chinese LC & demand guarantee cases for the 2011 Annual Review of Letter of Credit Law and Practice, took the opportunity to meet with noted Chinese LC Lawyer Jin Saibo of Beijing. The Standby & Guarantee Forum provided Chamblerlain, Lew, and Yang with the chance to network with and learn from some of the top lawyers, academics, and practitioners in international banking law and practice.
