Malcolm Participates in National Constitution Center Program
On May 27, Professor Joyce Lee Malcolm participated in The Exchange at the National Constitution Center in which students from across the nation discussed the issue of state and local control of handgun ownership. As scholarly advisor to the group, Malcolm helped raise awareness of how the Constitution shapes the debate, leading the high school students through an examination of various perspectives on gun control and a discussion of the District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago Supreme Court cases.
Held in Philadelphia, The Exchange engages high school students in discussion of current constitutional issues in a national videoconference format designed to encourage mutual respect. Students take part in the program at the Center and via videoconference. In addition, any school in the country can view a live Internet broadcast of the event and have access to curricular material for use in the classroom.
Hosted by SuChin Pak of "G Word," a daily news series on the Planet Green Network, The Exchange program is made possible through the support of the Annenberg Foundation and Scholastic, Inc.
