A memorial reception will be held for Larry Ribstein at George Mason University School of Law on Wednesday, January 4, at 4:00 p.m. in the Atrium. Professor Larry E. Ribstein was the Mildred Van Voorhis Jones Chair and Associate Dean for Research at the University of Illinois College of Law. He passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011 in Fairfax, Virginia. Professor Ribstein served on the faculty at George Mason University School of Law from 1987 to 2002, including as George Mason University Foundation Professor of Law from 1993 to 2002. Professor Ribstein also taught law at Mercer University, Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas, Washington University, St. Louis University, and New York University. He practiced law as an associate for three years in the trial department of McDermott, Will & Emery in Chicago. He was a highly influential and prolific scholar who authored leading treatises, casebooks, and articles on partnership law, limited liability companies, corporate and securities law, choice of law, financial regulation, white-collar crime, legal ethics, and the legal profession. Professor Ribstein earned his B.A. (1968) from Johns Hopkins University and his J.D. (1972) from the University of Chicago.
