Malcolm Testifies on Capitol Hill
On Wednesday, July 30, 2014, Professor Joyce Lee Malcolm testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary on the Violence Against Women Act. The hearing was on the topic of “Protecting Women from Gun Violence.”
“We are all concerned about protection of victims of domestic violence and more generally public safety. While current law is not perfect, it has the great virtue of according with the long-standing traditions of American law by protecting the rights of all concerned, rights recognized by the Supreme Court as ‘deeply rooted in the Nation’s history and tradition’ and ‘fundamental to our scheme of ordered liberty,’” Malcolm said.
Among those who appeared as witnesses with Malcolm were Dr. Jacquelyn Campbell, professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, and Hon. Seamus McCaffery, Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
