Following are networking and professional opportunities in which George Mason law students are invited to participate:
Women and Minority Law School Student Intellectual Property Summit
The summit will take place on Monday, October 1, 2007, at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Washington, DC, and will bring together top technology, media, and retail firms and organizations in an effort to increase awareness and encourage women and minority law students to seek careers in patent, trademark, and copyright fields.
The summit starts with a luncheon at noon, followed up by a roundtable discussion and panel discussions concerning diversity and careers in Intellectual Property law. The summit will conclude with a networking session for all those in attendance.
K&L Gates will be partnering with Microsoft to host the event.

The Northwest Minority Job Fair
The Northwest Minority Job Fair will be held in Seattle, WA, on Saturday, September 15, 2007, Participating employers include law firms as well as state and federal government agencies. Students must complete the registration form no later than FRIDAY, MAY 11.
Boston Lawyers Group 2007 D.C. Job Fair
George Mason 2L and 3L students of color are invited to pre-register for the opportunity to interview with large law firms, government organizations, and corporations in the Boston area through the Boston Lawyers Group 2007 D.C. Job Fair. The event will take place on September 13, 2007, at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., with a Pre-Job Fair Reception on September 12. Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair
The 3rd Annual Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair (HDLJF), will be held September 7-8, 2007, at the Kansas City Marriott Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. Students from law schools across the nation will have the opportunity to interview with area law firms, organizations and government agencies.

The Sixteenth Annual Delaware Minority Job Fair
The Sixteenth Annual Delaware Minority Job Fair will be held on the Wilmington campus of the Widener University School of Law on Saturday, August 18, 2007. The job fair, which is by invitation only, is limited to students who will be in their second or third year of law school during the 2007-08 school year.
When you submit an application for invitation, you are, in effect, submitting an application to all of the Delaware legal employers who participate in the program. Application materials, including the short application form, resume, law school and college transcripts must be faxed or emailed to the contact listed on the application form no later than MONDAY, APRIL 23. The National Black Prosecutors Association
The National Black Prosecutors Association (NBPA) will host its annual job fair in Bellevue, WA, on Tuesday, July 17, 2007. The job fair will provide a unique forum where law students, recent law graduates, and experienced attorneys from across the nation can meet and interview with prospective prosecutorial employers at the local, state, and federal levels. Students must complete the registration form no later than FRIDAY, JUNE 1. The job fair fee for law students and 2007 law graduates is $50; for laterals it is $75.00.

White & Case Diversity Reception
George Mason law students are invited to attend a Diversity Reception at White & Case LLP, 701 Thirteenth Street, NW, 11th Floor, Washington, DC, on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Law Department Diversity Committee of Sodexho, Inc. Job Shadowing Program
This one-day shadowing opportunity is designed for first-year law students in the Washington, DC, area who are considering corporate law as a possible practice area. Students will be paired with an attorney and will have an opportunity to experience first-hand the daily routine of the real practice of law. The student may accompany the attorney to client meetings, contract negotiations, or other work experience the agreed upon time period permits.
Participating practice groups within the Sodexho Law department include: Employment, Business Operations, Employee Benefits, Corporate Secretary, Government Affairs, Trademarks/Copyrights, and Technology.
AEF Networking Reception
The Asian Pacific American Bar Association Educational Fund is hosting a Networking Reception on Thursday, November 17, 2005, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP (901 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, DC -- accessible via Metro at Gallery Place/Chinatown). This is an opportunity for students to meet practicing attorneys from law firms, public interest organizations and government agencies, in order to learn about various areas of law. Judicial Intern Opportunity Program
The ABA Section of Litigation is sponsoring the 2005-06 Judicial Intern Opportunity Program, which is a full-time, six-week minimum, summer internship program open to all first- or second-year minority and financially disadvantaged law students who want to do legal research and writing for state or federal judges of various jurisdictions in Texas; Illinois; Miami, FL; Phoenix, AZ; and Los Angeles, CA. Interns will receive a stipend of $1500 for the entire summer. Detailed information and application form are available in CDAS or at www.abanet.org/litigation/jiop. Second-year students may begin submitting applications on November 1 and first-year students on December 1. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JANUARY 31, 2006. A second-year George Mason student, Rex Flynn, participated in this program last summer and had an excellent experience.
AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee Minority Outreach Program
The LCC Minority Outreach Program is designed to introduce minority law students to the practice of labor law and to the labor community by providing summer clerkship opportunities with participating firms and union legal departments. Students with a demonstrated interest in labor law, as well as those who may be interested in the field, are encouraged to participate in the program. There are opportunities for first- or second-year students to work for employers throughout the country. Students should apply individually to their employers of interest. There is no specific application deadline, and applications are being considered on a rolling basis. Further information about the program, including a list of participating employers, is available in CDAS.
Minority Judicial Internship-Judicial Law Clerk Seminar
On Saturday, October 1, 2005, APABA, The Washington Bar Association, and others are hosting a free Minority Judicial Internship-Judicial Law Clerk Seminar at Howard University Law School. How to pursue the opportunity to work with judges in judicial internships and judicial clerkships will be discussed in detail. A number of state and federal judges and law clerks will be present to share this information with you. The program is open to all law students and attorneys interested in judicial clerkships.
If you are not familiar with clerkships or internships, then this seminar is for you. First-year law students are encouraged to attend because judicial internships are a unique opportunity for your first summer. Please click for further information.
Hispanic Bar Association of D.C. Annual Mentor and Mentee Reception
All interested Mason Law students are welcome to attend the Hispanic Bar Association of D.C. Annual Mentor and Mentee Reception bringing together law students in the D.C. area and practicing Hispanic attorneys for mentoring relationships. The event will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2005, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Arnold & Porter, 555 Twelfth Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. Southern Poverty Law Center Program
The Loudoun County Public Library is hosting a free program on Thursday, October 6, 2005, at 7:00 p.m., at Heritage High School in Leesburg featuring Morris Dees from the Southern Poverty Law Center. Anyone interested in attending should contact Linda Holtslander at LHOLTSLA@loudoun.gov.
Hispanic National Bar Association Latino Job Fair
The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) will be celebrating its 30th Annual Convention in Washington, DC, this year in October at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. As part of the convention, the HNBA will host the largest Latino Job Fair in the country on October 19, 2005, providing law students and Latino attorneys a tremendous opportunity to meet, interview, and network with private, government, and public interest employers from across the country.
Interviews will be scheduled in 60-minute intervals from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a two-hour midday break (lunch is not included for job fair-only participants).
The registration fee for the job fair is $75; however, CDAS will pay the student registration fee for the first twelve students to register with CDAS for the job fair.

Dallas Bar Association Minority Attorney Business Development Initiative
During the past decade, some Dallas law firms have worked together with the Dallas Bar Association to enhance recruiting of minority lawyers. The MABDI Minority Recruitment Porject was established to assist the participating law firms in recruiting from a larger pool of minority candidates and to do so in a systematic way. Mason Law is a school designated as one from which these firms would like potential interviewees. Eligible students (top 50% of class) who have an interest in the project and willingness to consider going to Dallas following graduation are invited to send resumes and transcripts, preferably via email, no later than September 6, 2005. IMPACT Career Fair
The University of Arizona Rogers College of Law and Georgetown University Law Center will host a job fair for students and lawyers with disabilities from the classes of 2001 -- 2007 on Friday, September 16, 2005, in Washington, DC. Law students and graduates from law schools across the country are invited to submit materials directly to employers for prescreening for summer clerkships and attorney positions. Employers will interview law students and graduates, attend CLE programs, and review resources.

Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair
The Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair (www.heartlanddiversity.org), a brand new initiative of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association’s Diversity and Managing Partner Committees, will be held on Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10th in Kansas City, Missouri at the Westin Crown Center. This job fair is specifically designed to encourage law students of diverse backgrounds to make Kansas City their first choice in job markets. The event kicks off Friday night at 5:00 p.m. with registration and a welcome reception and continues on Saturday, with interviews beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interviews will be conducted on a 50/50 basis—law firms will pre-select 50% of their interviews and the remaining 50% will be based upon a lottery. The Job Fair will also run mini-workshops on Saturday aimed at answering “Why KC?” and will range from “Networking Tips” to “The KC Real Estate Market”. Diversity Networking Event: March 29, 2005
The Washington Area Legal Recruitment Administrators Association (WALRAA) is hosting a Diversity Networking Event and Reception on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Avenue.
This event – open to first-year law students – will be a unique opportunity for local law students of diverse backgrounds to meet and mingle with associates and partners from prominent law firms throughout the metropolitan area. It will offer a fun environment in which students can learn about the rewards and challenges of law firm practice, what to expect from summer associate programs, how to build experience that is attractive to employers, and how to make the most of your law school experience. Job Shadowing Program for First Year Students
The Law Department Diversity Committee sponsored a job shadowing program at its Sodexho, Inc. headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland. This one day job shadowing opportunity was designed for first-year law students considering corporate law as a possible practice area. Students had the opportunity to meet with attorneys in their workplace, discuss their career paths and gain insight into a typical workday. Participating practice groups within the Sodexho Law department included: Employment, General Litigation, Business Operations, Corporate Secretary, Franchise Operations, Employee Benefits, Government Affairs, Trademarks/Copyrights, and Technology.
