Q. May I qualify to take a U.S. bar examination by enrolling in the law school’s online LLM in U.S. Law?
Our U.S. Law LLM curriculum meets the requirements for students to sit for California, Washington, and Washington DC Bar exams. Note: To qualify for the Washington DC Bar exam, students must take specific elective courses (see FAQ below). Every state in the United States has its own unique set of rules to qualify for the bar examination in that state. Students should consult with the rules of the state in which licensure is of interest.
Q. How do I meet the qualification requirement to sit for the Washington DC Bar?
Every state in the United States has its own unique set of rules to qualify for the bar examination in that state. The Washington DC Bar requires students to take one course in every subject on the bar exam. With the online LLM in U.S. Law curriculum, you can meet that requirement with 30 credits—just 4 additional elective credits are required when paired with the complete LLM. Students who intend to sit for the DC Bar should work with the admissions team, before enrolling in courses, to make sure they select the correct courses to meet this requirement.
Q. What level of U.S. Law do I need to understand to do well in this online LLM program?
None. These courses will instruct you on all the important and critical issues to help you be successful in the LLM program.
Q. Since this program is online, can I take courses whenever I want?
The program is flexible. You can pick the courses and the number of courses that you want to take at any given time. Each semester is comprised of two terms (of 8 weeks each). You will register and pay for courses for the upcoming semester (two terms). Registration will occur in August, January, and May for the upcoming semester.
Q. Do I have the opportunity to review material from earlier classes in a course to enrich my understanding of the material and provide me additional insights?
Yes. You can review earlier classes, lectures and insights. This is one of the important benefits of online education. At Scalia Law, the goal of the LLM Program is to best prepare you for the future.
Q. How much does the program cost?
Each credit is $1,200 for the online program
Online Learning
Q. I’ve never taken an online program. Are there specific things I should do to prepare for the experience?
A. An orientation session will be provided to you before you begin any of your coursework. This session will familiarize you with the technology and offer you distance learning best practices. You’ll walk through how to use the learning management system and familiarize yourself with all of its tools so that you will be ready to hit the ground running. You will also have access to 24/7 technical support in case issues arise.
Q. How will my instructor know that I attended class?
A. Your attendance is tracked automatically each time you log into your course; the system also tracks all submitted work.
Q. Though the program is asynchronous, you indicate there are assignments throughout. What does that mean?
A. While the asynchronous format allows you to complete coursework on whichever days or times fit your individual schedule, each section has knowledge checks and assessments to make sure that you are effectively understanding the content presented.
Technical Issues
Q. Are there any technical requirements that I need to have in order to participate?
A. At minimum, you should prepare to have access to a reliable high-speed, broadband Internet connection. A minimum download speed of 5.00 Mbps and minimum upload speed of 2.00 Mbps is recommended. You are encouraged to use a laptop or desktop computer rather than a tablet or smartphone; though, the technology also works on those devices.
Q. What happens if I have a technical problem?
A. You will have access to a technical support contact to ensure continued course success. Applications Process and Admissions
Q. Is there ever a time I have to actually visit the School of Law, either to be accepted or admitted into the program, or at any other point during the program?
A. No. There is no requirement you physically visit the campus.
Q. What is required for me to submit my application?
To be considered for admission please submit the following:

To apply to George Mason Scalia Law School of Law, you must complete and submit an online application at LSAC.org, and register for LSAC’s Credential Assembly Service (CAS). Q. I received my law degree outside the United States. How does that impact my ability to enroll in the U.S. LLM degree?
This program is designed specifically for those having a law degree from outside the United States. We welcome the opportunity to engage with professionals from all nations.
