Ms. Paulina Paczala, Poland

Paulina Paczala is originally from Hrubieszow, Poland. She completed her Master in Law degree at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw. During law school, as well as after graduating, Ms. Paczala worked for two years as a legal editorial assistant in the international company, Wolters Kluwer. Her duties there included advising corporate clients about their inquiries regarding law changes, but she was also actively involved in Court Watch Poland, a non-profit organization monitoring trial courts in the Republic of Poland while outside of work. Ms. Paczala will be attending the Scalia Law School at George Mason University beginning in the fall of 2018 in order to pursue her LL.M. degree in United States Law. Her hobbies include photography, Pilates and cooking. She has been living in Virginia three years now, where she plans to stay after graduation.

Ms. Diana Abadi, Colombia

Ms. Diana Abadi is from Bogota, Colombia, where she completed her law degree in the Universidad Externado de Colombia. During her law studies, Ms. Abadi was part of a research group in the Intellectual Property Department, where she focused on the creation of a document that explained the impact of free and proprietary software in the Colombian society. The result of this research, entitled “Software libre y software propietario: impacto jurídico, económico y cultural en Colombia” (Free software and proprietary software: legal, economic and cultural impact in Colombia), was published as a book in 2013. After that, Ms. Abadi was introduced to the field of international taxation, and how international structures can be used in the IP field. She is joining Scalia Law School at George Mason University this fall 2016 to pursue her LL.M. studies in United State Law.

Ms. Julia Blees, Germany

Ms. Julia Blees is originally from Germany and completed her first state examination at University of Trier. After that she worked for two years as a legal clerk and completed her second state examination in November 2015. During the legal clerkship Ms. Blees worked for a judge, the police headquarters, a prosecutor as well as a criminal lawyer in Germany and a corporate lawyer in the United States. After the clerkship Ms. Blees worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Luxembourg at the Regulatory and Compliance Advisory Services department where she analyzed European and Luxembourgish financial sector regulations to determine their impact on clients. She is joining George Mason this fall 2016 to pursue her LL.M. in United States Law, which will allow her to focus on criminal law, her area of interest. She moved to Washington DC to live in the nation’s capital but also to be close to George Mason.

Ms. Marina Rakova, Russian Federation

Ms. Marina Rakova is originally from the Russian Federation where she graduated with honors from Irkutsk State Academy of Economics, Law Faculty (now Baikal State University of Economics and Law). She received her first law degree in Civil Law and Procedure.

After graduation, Ms. Rakova worked as an attorney for various companies in Russia, and the last eight years she served as an attorney for the Office of General Counsel in PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Moscow, Russia. At PwC, Ms. Rakova dealt with domestic and international contracting, clients’ litigation as well as with professional responsibility, audit and appraisal activity issues. Ms. Rakova is joining George Mason this fall 2016 to pursue her LL.M. degree in US law with the goal of sitting for a bar exam and becoming qualified as a US lawyer. Ms. Rakova’s hobbies are downhill skiing, reading, and spending time with her family. She moved to Virginia with her husband and 4-year old daughter.

Mr. Ibnul Ali Khan, Bangladesh

Mr. Ibnul Ali Khan is from Bangladesh. After completing high school in Fairfax, Virginia, Mr. Khan received his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of London in the United Kingdom. Mr. Khan pursued the Bar in England and Wales and became a qualified Barrister in 2015 after completing the Bar Professional Training Course at the University of the West of England. Mr. Khan served as a legal advisor at the Civil Justice Center in Bristol, England. He is a Barrister member of The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in London, England. He lives in Fairfax, Virginia and is pursuing the LL.M. in U.S. Law. He hopes to take the N.Y. Bar Exam and specialize in commercial and corporate law. He enjoys playing poker, testing VR demos, flying drones and creating educational videos.

Ms. Lakshmi Mittal, India

Ms. Lakshmi Mittal is a licensed attorney and qualified Company Secretary from India. She worked as Senior Law Consultant with Serious Fraud investigation Office, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. During her tenure, Ms. Mittal represented the Government of India in few remarkable cases in apex courts for corporate criminal and financial fraud matters. She also managed her own law firm dealing with corporate compliance, corporate governance, real estate and family laws matters. Ms. Mittal has been a speaker in the seminars organized by bar associations and Institute of Company Secretaries of India. She is also a member of the International Council of Jurists in London, U.K. Ms. Mittal moved to United States with her husband and 13 year old daughter. She volunteers at the office of Legal Services of Northern Virginia. She has recently been appointed as Director- US affairs by All India Bar Association. Ms. Mittal is pursuing her LL.M. degree in United States Law at George Mason starting this fall 2016. She is passionate about Indian classical music and always curious to learn new things from different cultures.
