Malcolm Lectures at Princeton Event

Professor Joyce Lee Malcolm presented the Alpheus T. Mason Lecture on Constitutional Law and Political Thought: The Quest for Freedom on September 28 at Princeton University.

Malcolm's lecture, presented as part of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, was entitled "Self Defense: Our Most Basic Right or a Danger to Public Safety? The Anglo-American Divide."

Says Malcolm of the topic, "Self-defense has traditionally been considered the first law of nature. Yet the shared Anglo-American respect for self-reliance diverged in the last century with dramatic results for both nations."

According to its website, the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions in the Department of Politics at Princeton University is dedicated to exploring enduring questions of American constitutional law and Western political though, as well as to examining the application of basic legal and ethical principles to contemporary problems.
