JICL Symposium with Securities and Exchange Commission, Office of International Affairs April 11
The George Mason Journal of International Commercial Law will be hosting two invited speakers from the SEC Office of International Affairs for its Spring Symposium: The SEC Abroad: International Cooperation and Enforcing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The symposium will be held in Room 121 of Hazel Hall, this Thursday, April 11, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Journal is proud to host Alberto Arevalo, the Chief for International Cooperation and Technical Assistance, and Erin McCartney, the Branch Chief and Senior Counsel for International FCPA Enforcement. Mr. Arevalo will discuss the SEC’s cross-border cooperation efforts and the international agreements that are designed to prevent fraudulent securities activities from escaping detection and prosecution. Ms. McCartney will discuss anti-bribery enforcement under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Before joining the SEC OIA, she headed the drafting of Iraq’s securities laws as part of the State Department’s Iraq reconstruction office.
Refreshments will be provided. This event is open to the general public, but Mason Law students and faculty are especially welcome.
