Introducing the Justice Stanley Reed Bobblehead
Professor Ross Davies, editor-in-chief of the Green Bag, has unveiled the latest in the law journal’s series of bobbleheads of Supreme Court Justices. Honored this time is Justice Stanley Reed.
Reed, an Associate Justice from 1938 to 1957, is featured sitting behind a desk, in a high-back chair with the words “The Law” written across the top. The desk and chair are a nod to the case of Pennekamp v. Florida, 328 U.S. 331 (1944), in which Reed authored the opinion of the Court. Sitting on Reed’s desk is volume 321 of the U.S. Reports. The book represents Smith v. Allwright, 321 U.S. 649 (1944), an opinion also authored by Reed. An annotation describing the cases symbolized in the bobblehead’s design is available on the Green Bag's website.
Since 2003, the Green Bag has produced bobbleheads of recent Supreme Court Justices as well as miniature bobbleheads of historical Justices. Current Justices with bobbleheads are Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy, Clarence Thomas, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Stephen G. Breyer. Historical Justices include John Jay, James Wilson, John Blair, and Louis D. Brandeis. The Green Bag has announced that bobbleheads are forthcoming for Justices David J. Brewer and Hugo L. Black, and the current Chief Justice of the United States, John G. Roberts. To read more about the Green Bag’s bobbleheads, visit the Green Bag’s website.
