Somin Op-ed in History News Network

Professor Ilya Somin contributed an op-ed to George Mason University’s History News Network on politics and ignorance, the topic of his recent book Democracy and Political Ignorance: Why Smaller Government Is Smarter.

Somin writes, “There is no easy solution to the problem of political ignorance. But we can alleviate it by limiting and decentralizing government power. When people ‘vote with their feet’ in choosing which state or local government to live under, or what product to buy in the market, they have much stronger incentives to both acquire relevant information and evaluate it wisely than ballot box voters do.”
