Somin Discusses Book on Satellite Radio Program

Professor Ilya Somin made a January 13 appearance on The Midday Briefing with Tim Farley, a Sirius XM satellite radio program, where he discussed his new book, Democracy and Political Ignorance: Why Small Government is Smarter with the show's host.

In his book Somin explores political ignorance in America and how that ignorance creates problems for democracy. He weighs various options for solving the problem, arguing that political ignorance is best mitigated and its effects lessened by decentralizing and limiting government. Somin argues that people make better decisions when they choose what to purchase in the market or which state or local government to live under, than when they vote at the ballot box, because they have stronger incentives to acquire relevant information and to use it wisely.
