Manion’s 7th Circuit Dissent Cites Alvare Article

Professor Helen Alvaré’s article “No Compelling Interest: The ‘Birth Control’ Mandate and Religious Freedom” was cited in Judge Daniel Manion’s dissent in Grace Schools v. Burwell, a case decided on September 4, 2015 by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.

The issue in the case was whether the so-called “contraceptive mandate” of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 imposed a substantial burden on religious, not-for-profit organizations’ free exercise of religion rights.

Alvaré’s article was published in volume 58 of Villanova Law Review in 2013. She teaches Family Law, Law & Religion, and Property.
