Adjunct Professors David Lord (JD ’05) and Hon. Stephen C. Shannon Earn Top Teaching Honors

George Mason University has recognized two Scalia Law adjunct faculty members for their outstanding teaching: Adjunct Professor David Lord (JD ’05) and Distinguished Adjunct Professor Hon. Stephen C. Shannon.

Professor Lord will receive the Adjunct Teaching Excellence Award for 2025–2026, the university’s highest honor for adjunct faculty. The award recognizes exceptional commitment to teaching and meaningful impact on students, highlighting Lord’s contributions both in the classroom and the legal profession.

Professor Lord serves as the Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Alexandria, Virginia, and brings substantial real-world experience to his teaching in criminal procedure.

Judge Shannon has been named a George Mason University Teacher of Distinction, another university honor recognizing instructional excellence. This marks the second time Judge Shannon has received the distinction, having previously been recognized in 2020. His repeated selection reflects his sustained dedication to teaching and mentorship at Scalia Law.

Judge Shannon serves on the bench in Virginia’s 19th Judicial District and teaches criminal law at Scalia Law. His distinguished judicial career and depth of experience give students a unique opportunity to learn from a sitting judge whose expertise connects legal theory with courtroom practice.
