Startup Company Practicum
The Practicum is a year-long commitment with two semesters.
In the fall semester, students take LAW 354: Startup Law. Any student who has completed or is concurrently enrolled in LAW 172: Business Associations (or has substantially equivalent experience, as determined by the program director) may register for LAW 354; no separate application is required. LAW 354 is a business law class that follows the lifecycle of the startup company, examining core legal and business issues facing startup companies, including formation, financing, scaling, operations, and exit.
In the spring semester, students take LAW 878: Startup Company Practicum. Enrollment in the Practicum is by application only. Students who wish to take LAW 878 must submit an application and must also take LAW 354: Startup Law. The Practicum is a transactional clinic that may involve simulated representation of fictional clients and may not include live clients. Students work on a range of legal issues related to startup companies and small businesses, including business formation, ongoing business operations, and financings. The Practicum is a year-long commitment that requires you to first have LAW 354: Startup Law in the Fall.
