Biographical Sketch
Elizabeth (Betsy) Hutson is a Trial Attorney at the Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit of the U.S. Department of Justice. She works with AUSAs and agents across the country to prosecute sex and labor trafficking cases. Prior to joining HTPU, she was on detail with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where she worked in both the Criminal Division and the Sex Offense and Domestic Violence Section.
Before moving to the public sector, Professor Hutson was an associate at McGuireWoods in Washington, D.C. for five years. Her practice there focused on commercial and white-collar litigation. She also maintained an active pro bono practice centered on civil litigation on behalf of human trafficking survivors and obtained the largest civil single-plaintiff human trafficking award in the United States. Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Professor Hutson was as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
