Biographical Sketch
Mark Niefer is a lawyer and economist specializing in competition law and policy. Before going into teaching and consulting, he served the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice in key roles during a career that spanned more than twenty-five years (1997-2024). His positions included International Advisor-Digital Markets, Deputy Chief Legal Advisor, and Special Assistant. He received the John Marshall Award, the Department of Justice’s highest award for attorneys.
Before he joined the Antitrust Division, Professor Niefer was an economist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where he studied the effect of new technology on industrial productivity and energy consumption. He has published articles in economics and law journals and has appeared at many professional conferences.
