Biographical Sketch

JoAnn Koob joined Antonin Scalia Law School in November 2017 as an assistant professor and the director of the Liberty and Law Center, an academic center dedicated to exploring the role of law in protecting and promoting liberty and challenging government encroachment upon individual liberty.

As the director and a founding member of the Liberty and Law Center, Professor Koob oversees the Center’s vision and strategic goals, as well as developing and overseeing the Center’s academic and policy programs. Professor Koob’s research and writing interests include freedom of speech and the press, including corporate and political speech, and nonprofit law.

Professor Koob began her career as an associate at DLA Piper US, LLP, focusing her practice on corporate and securities law. She then went on to practice nonprofit law in the Washington, DC, area, representing a variety of types of nonprofit organizations. She holds a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and a BA from the University of Minnesota, where she graduated summa cum laude.
