This semester we are offering some classes in remote, hybrid, and flex format, which is reflected on the PDF version of the spring schedule.

(W) This course has been designated as a writing course.

(E) This course has been designated as an experiential course. Please note – for courses designated both (W) and (E), students may apply the course to either requirement, but not both. See Academic Regulations §3-3.2 for more information.

(DE) This course has been designated as a distance education course. No more than 1/3 of a student’s required 89 credits to graduate may be distance education credits. See Academic Regulations §3-3.1 for more information.

^ Final exams for 112-R02, 121-R01, 172-R01, 292-R01, 330-R02 & 392-R01 will be conducted in person at Mason Square (Arlington campus).

Notes to Day Schedule:

(N.1) This course meets one Friday morning (Jan. 23) from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the law school; one Saturday full day (Jan. 24) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Manuscript Reading Room at the Library of Congress (101 Independence Av. SE); and six Monday mornings (Jan. 26, Feb. 16, Mar. 16, Mar. 30, Apr. 13, and Apr. 20) from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the law school. Full attendance at the Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 sessions is mandatory. If you fail to attend either of those sessions you will not pass the course. No exceptions. There is a good reason they take place before the Jan. 28 drop/add deadline: It gives you time to register for another course, if you miss the Jan. 23 or Jan. 24 class session.

(N.2) This course is only for students who are in an extramural moot court competition. Teams will arrange additional meeting times with the instructors. This course is letter graded comes with 1 in-class credit and 1 out- of-class credit.

(N.3) Information regarding SP26 clinics, field programs, and externships was sent via a LawNews email on 10/14/25. The Arts & Entertainment Advocacy Field Program is letter-graded; the Copyright Claims Board Field Program is CR/NC. Enrollment is with professor permission only. Email the course instructors with your interest in applying to these courses.

(N.4) The Bankruptcy Court Externship program will meet at the United States Bankruptcy Courthouse (200 South Washington Street) in Alexandria, VA from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month. This course is worth 1 out-of-class credit and is graded as CR/NC. Enrollment is with professor permission only. Email the course instructors with your interest in applying to this course.

(N.5) Students must have taken or be concurrently enrolled in Law 224 to enroll in the Copyright Claims Board Field Program. Awards 1 out-of-class credit, CR/NC. Will meet concurrently with Law 224 on select weeks throughout the semester - see syllabus for more details. Meetings will be arranged in coordination with the instructors through early March.

(N.6) Some required class meetings for the Giles Rich Moot Court may take place prior to the start of SP26 classes. This course is graded as CR/NC and comes with 1 in-class credit and 1 out-of-class credit.

(N.7) This clinic or field program meets for two hours a week. Students will receive four credits total for the semester because of meetings and work outside of the regularly scheduled classroom time. This is a year-long clinic or field program and requires enrollment for both Fall and Spring. This course is letter graded and comes with 2 in-class and 2 out-of-class credits. Enrollment is with professor permission only.

(N.8) JD students who took Law 622 once before, may enroll a second time because course content changes every semester.

(N.9) JD students who took Law 208 once before, may enroll a second time because course content changes every semester. This course awards 1 in-class credit and 1 out-of-class credit.

(N.10) This course will meet twice a week for a total of 4 hours per week, and a total of 20 times during the semester (i.e.10 weeks).

(N.11) This is a required course for students ranked in the bottom quartile (25%) of the class at the end of their penultimate year. Those students will be enrolled directly in the course. The course will open for registration as an elective option, to students in their final year, during the regular enrollment period.

(N.12) This course will not meet weekly; there will be assigned dates throughout the semester as listed in the course syllabus.

(N.13) This practicum meets for two hours a week but students receive three credits total because of meetings and work required outside of the regularly scheduled classroom time. Awards two in-class credits and one out- of-class credit. This course has the prerequisite of Law 354 or Law 172 [this can also be a co-requisite].

(N.14) Students must receive approval to register for the Supervised Externship programs and should submit the Externship Information form found in the Externship Module on Symplicity to begin the process. (Virginia Practice Externship applicants will submit the form after meeting with the program directors.) To access the form, log on to Symplicity and select the Externship Module from the “Shortcuts” on the right side of the screen or the “Experiential Module” (it shows both ways) and select “add.” Once approved, students will be registered by the Records Office for the appropriate externship course. Students not being compensated for the work performed will be registered for Law 320, 321, or 179. Students being compensated for the work being performed will be registered for Law 520, 521, or 579. Students are limited to a maximum of 6 credit hours of compensated externship credit and such credit may be earned only in a student’s final two full semesters (fall or spring).

(N.15) Only students who were accepted by the Director of First-Year LRWA as Writing Fellows are eligible to enroll.

(N.17) This is an asynchronous course with weekly assignments, and it will follow the format of the other Law 178: Legal Fundamental courses (e.g., 13 classes, 1 mid-term and 1 final exam).

(N.18) This course offers an online info session on 1/22 at 11:50am EST via Zoom. This course has a prerequisite of Law 156. The course will meet on the following days:

(N.22) This course is the second part to Law 516, which is the prerequisite for this clinic. This course is letter graded and comes with 2 in-class credits and 1 out-of-class credit.

(N.3) This section of Law 121 will meet remotely on Tuesdays and in-person on Thursdays. Further details provided in the syllabus.

(N.4) This course will meet eight times throughout the semester; see the syllabus for further details. This is a CR/NC course.

(N.7) Legal Writing for Law Clerks is a seven-week course ending mid-semester. Information regarding the application process was sent via LawNews email on 10/7/2025.

(N.8) This course will start meeting mid-semester on the following days: 2/26, 3/5, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2, 4/9, 4/16.

(N.10) The following are corequisites or prerequisites for this course: Law 284: Patent Law I, Law 292: Patent Law II, or Law 338: Patent Law.

(N.11) This course is a continuation of the Fall semester of Law 364. This is a year-long clinic. Students enrolled in a full-year clinic or field program will have their enrollment automatically renewed for the Spring semester.

(N.12) This course is a continuation of the Fall semester of Law 136. This is a year-long clinic. Students enrolled in a full-year clinic or field program will have their enrollment automatically renewed for the Spring semester.

(N.13) This course is a continuation of the Fall semester of Law 185. This is a year-long clinic. Students enrolled in a full-year clinic or field program will have their enrollment automatically renewed for the Spring semester.

(N.14) This course is graded as CR/NC and comes with 1 in-class credit and 1 out-of-class credit.

(N.15) Enrollment with instructor approval only. Email the course instructors for information. This course is letter graded and comes with 1 in-class credit and 1 out-of-class credit.

(N.16) This is an asynchronous course with weekly assignments, and it will follow the format of the other Law 178: Legal Fundamental courses (e.g., 13 classes, 1 mid-term and 1 final exam).

(N.17) This course will open for general registration to non-FLX JD students on Friday, 11/7.

(N.18) This course will not meet weekly. This course will have six sessions that will each be 2 hours long, and two additional sessions that will be 1 hour long each. Refer to the syllabus for more details.

MAKE-UP EXAMS FOR ANY REASON OCCUR ON ONE OF THE EXAM MAKE-UP DAYS — MAY 12 & 13, 2026. STUDENTS MUST SUBMIT A PETITION TO THE RECORDS OFFICE SEEKING PERMISSION TO DELAY AN EXAM.
