Chris Nolen: A Commitment to and Career in Government Affairs

Chris Nolen

After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech, Mr. Nolen enrolled in Scalia Law and graduated in 1999 with a JD degree. He chose Scalia due to its ascending law school ranking, unique curriculum, and its proximity to Washington, D.C.

He has gained over 20 years of experience in Virginia government, politics, and the legislative and regulatory process since graduating from Scalia. In his current roles as a Partner at McGuireWoods LLP and Executive Vice President at McGuireWoods Consulting, Mr. Nolen draws on his experience as a lobbyist to assist clients in developing and implementing legislative and regulatory strategies.

After reflecting on his positive experience with the Law School and how it has influenced his professional career, Mr. Nolen decided to join the newly reconstituted Dean’s Advisory Board in September 2021. It is his belief that giving back to the school ensures that students have strong experiences to better their careers. Taking advantage of everything D.C. has to offer, pursuing internships, and engaging with Scalia’s clinics are things he encourages every student to do.

Mr. Nolen believes that Scalia gives students a competitive edge, and he can see the impact that the Law School has on graduates who immerse themselves in its offerings. Specifically, the legal clinics serve as a “laboratory of learning” and help recent graduates better assimilate themselves into the real world. He plans on continuing to serve as an ambassador for the Law School, helping students go on to lead successful careers.
