Professor Newman’s Restatement Draft Adopted by American Law Institute
On May 18, 2022, at the Annual Meeting of the American Law Institute in Washington, D.C., ALI membership voted to adopt various draft provisions of what will become the Restatement (Fourth) of Property. Among the approved draft sections was a chapter on the topic of bailments, for which Scalia Law Professor Christopher Newman served as lead drafter, working in collaboration with Reporter Henry Smith of Harvard Law School. This is the first time a treatment of bailment law has been included in a Restatement. Professor Newman has served as an Associate Reporter for the Property Restatement project since 2014. See Professor Newman discussing his work on this project here.
