Excellent Turnout for LEC’s Civil Justice Preview of the Supreme Court’s 2023-2024 Term

On Friday, September 15, 2023, the Civil Justice Academy hosted panelists John H. Beisner, Partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, and Robert S. Peck, Founder and President of the Center for Constitutional Litigation, for a preview of the Supreme Court’s upcoming term. The event took place at George Mason University, Antonin Scalia Law School and was moderated by Donald J. Kochan, Professor of Law and Executive Director of the Law & Economics Center. More than 60 people attended in person at the law school, while another 200+ individuals watched synchronously online.
As the Court will begin to hear cases for the upcoming year on October 2, the panel previewed some of the most interesting and potentially consequential cases for the coming year. The panelists focused on the civil justice-related cases on the docket, the cases where economic analysis is most at play, and those cases likely to have the most substantial economic impact or require adjustment to business activity. The event concluded with a Q&A with questions taken from both the in-person and online audience.
