Professor Nuno Garoupa Elected President of the European Association of Law and Economics

Scalia Law Professor Nuno Garoupa was recently elected President of the European Association of Law and Economics (EALE) for the 2023-2026 term. The election was unanimous and took place at the annual conference in Berlin, September 21–22, 2023. The current management board includes leading scholars from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United States.
Founded in 1984 the European Association of Law and Economics stimulates the development of law and economics research and scholarship in Europe. EALE does this by supporting scholars and bringing their work to a wider audience, including policy makers, legislators, and judges. EALE is the oldest scientific association focused on the economic analysis of law in the world. It was incorporated as an international scientific association under Belgian law in the early 2000s and now has over 300 members.
Nuno Garoupa served as Vice-President of the association for the 2004–2007 term. He is a Professor of Law and Faculty Director of Graduate Studies at Scalia law. In addition to his law and economics work, Professor Garoupa is also well-known for his comparative law and comparative judicial politics scholarship.
