Donald Kochan Publishes New Edition of His Co-Authored Treatise: Law of Neighbors
Professor Donald Kochan recently published the third edition of his 524-page treatise, The Law of Neighbors (Thomson Reuters, Dec. 2024 ed.), co-authored with Professor James Charles Smith of the University of Georgia School of Law. The comprehensive treatise covers the gamut of issues impacting neighboring properties, including land use, airspace, zoning, nuisance, trespass, water rights, adverse possession, boundary disputes, and federal, state, and local regulations. The treatise has many citations to its credit, with one of the most recent coming from the Iowa Supreme Court’s opinion in Sundance Land Co., LLC v. Remmark, where both the majority and dissent cited the work. The title is available for purchase from Thomson Reuters and is also available on Westlaw, with a subscription.
An expert in property law, Professor Kochan also writes extensively on constitutional law, administrative law, local government law, natural resources and environmental law, and law & economics. Professor Kochan teaches popular courses on property, civil procedure, and state constitutional law. In addition to his professorial duties, Professor Kochan serves as Executive Director of the Law & Economics Center (LEC).
