E. Kontorovich

Scalia Law Professor Eugene Kontorovich recently joined the Heritage Foundation as a Senior Research Fellow in the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom. In the new role, he will focus on international law, sovereignty, and issues related to Israel. Professor Kontorovich, who is also the director of the Center for the Middle East and International Law, is expected to significantly bolster Heritage’s leadership in national security and foreign policy. Heritage President Kevin Roberts praised Kontorovich’s “sharp legal mind” and “deep passion for international affairs,” while Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) called Kontorovich “an indispensable expert on Israel and the Middle East.”

Professor Kontorovich’s impressive academic background and professional achievements further underscore his qualifications for the new role. He has published over thirty major scholarly articles and book chapters in leading law reviews and peer-reviewed journals, and his scholarship has been cited by appellate courts worldwide. His expertise in universal jurisdiction, maritime piracy, and the Israel-Arab conflict have made him a sought-after commentator for major news organizations, including New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR News, The New Yorker, Los Angeles Times, and numerous others. Kontorovich’s popular writings have been featured in leading publications, and he is a frequent contributor to the Wall Street Journal’s editorial pages.
