Graduation Ceremony
Graduation is on Saturday, May 19, 2012

| The University Commencement is officiated by the University President and recognizes all 2012 graduates of George Mason University. Law graduates are welcome to attend. Tickets for guests are required; each graduate is allotted four (4) tickets. | ||

| The School of Law Convocation is a special convocation ceremony for law graduates only. This ceremony is NOT to be confused with the GMU General Commencement ceremony that is held the same day at 10:00 AM. Graduates may attend both. No tickets are required for the School of Law Convocation; however the suggested number is 6-8 guests. If you anticipate more, please email lawgrad@gmu.edu. The ceremony will be followed by a reception with light refreshments. | ||
Graduates and Guests should park in the Visitors Parking Garage next to the Concert Hall.

Important Dates
| February 15 & 16 | Cap and gown measurements, announcements, ring and other graduation item orders in Law School Atrium - 11am - 7pm. |
| February 17 |
Graduation applications due to Law School Records Office. |
| March 22 | If you do not get measured for your cap and gown when Oak Hall is in the atrium on Feb 15-16, you must go to the campus bookstore to be measured. Your cap and gown order must be placed NO LATER THAN March 22, 2012 or you will incur a late fee. |
| May 2 |
Graduates should advise the SBA if they will be having guests needing special assistance or with children under 2 years old NO LATER THAN May 2, 2012. Call the SBA at 703-993-8160 or email carmstro@gmu.edu. |
| May 16-17 | 9:30 AM - 7:00 PM. Distribution of caps and gowns at Arlington Campus Bookstore. |
| May 18 | 6:00 PM – 8:30PM Evening Cocktail Reception for law grads and their families in the Atrium of the Law School. |
On Friday, May 18 after 10:00 a.m., all unclaimed caps and gowns will be taken to the Concert Hall, Fairfax Campus. Gowns can be picked up there after 12 noon on May 19.
May 19, 2012 Sequence of Events School of Law Convocation
| 12:05 PM | Park in the Parking Garage next to the Concert Hall. Law Graduates arrive at Concert Hall. Robe in theatre area, backstage. Tassels worn on right for ceremony, left for conferral of degree. Graduates may keep tassel. Do not bring personal items, purses, or valuables with you into the theatre area. There will be no security to protect them from theft! |
| 12:30 PM | Panoramic class photograph taken outside the Concert hall weather permitting. The photo will be taken at 12:30 . If inclement weather, class photo will be done in Concert Hall. Don’t be late! |
| 1:00 PM | Graduates line up alphabetically backstage for processional line. Promptness is essential! Guests who need special assistance should plan to arrive at the Concert Hall by 1:15 p.m. See May 2 deadline (above) for requesting seating. |
| 1:15 PM | Doors open for guests. (Parking on Parking Deck.) |
| 2:00 PM | Procession begins. Graduates follow collegial marshals. |
| 3:45 PM | Ceremony ends, followed by light refreshments. Return caps & gowns to designated area. |
NOTE: GMU Events Management handles photography for the convocation ceremony. Photographic proofs of graduates receiving their diplomas will be mailed directly to each graduate. Beverages, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, and smoking are prohibited in the procession and in Concert Hall.

Each year, the Student Bar Association hosts a special reception for graduates the evening before graduation. The reception gives graduates a chance to relax and socialize with their fellow graduates, family members, guests, and faculty/staff/administrators from the School of Law.

Caps & Gowns
Caps and gowns may be ordered at the Graduation Fair on February 15 or 16. If you were unable to attend the Graduation Fair, you should order your cap and gown from the Arlington Campus Bookstore NO LATER THAN March 22, or you will incur a late fee. Caps and gowns are rented. The vendor is Oak Hall (www.oakhalli.com).
Caps and gowns will be distributed on May 16 - 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Arlington Campus Bookstore.
