2022 Winter

(January 5 – January 14, 2022)

The law school offers a Winter Term in conjunction with the Spring 2022 Semester and all Winter Term courses will be held completely remotely. Credits earned over Winter Term are considered part of the Spring 2022 semester and Winter Term tuition will be billed at the same time Spring 2022 tuition is billed. Registration for Winter Term opens at the same time as Spring 2022 registration. Students must include the credits in which they intend to enroll during Winter Term in their Spring 2022 semester course load calculations. Reminder: part-time students may be enrolled in a maximum of 12 credits for the Winter Term/Spring Semester combined, and full-time students may be enrolled in a maximum of 17 credits.

All first-year students are required to complete the LRWA II programming. The programming is a required introductory session for LRWA II and not a separate Winter Term course option. First year students may elect to register for optional Winter Term courses that do not conflict with LRWA II sessions. Winter courses open to first-year students are noted with an asterisk below and are: Business Law Bootcamp (Law 083); Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Law and Strategies (Law 084); and Leadership and Management Skills for Lawyers (Law 082). Other winter courses are open only to upper-class students.

For planning purposes, students should expect to complete 20-30 hours of work outside class for each Winter Term course. There will be assigned reading prior to the first class for all courses. Please consult the course syllabi, once posted, for this and the other course requirements. All courses will be graded CR/NC (except as noted below) and will be considered in-class credits under Academic Regulation 3-3.1.

Notes

* Winter courses open to first-year students are noted with an asterisk.

(N.1) This course is graded. The course will include a mix of class meetings via Zoom; outside-of-class individual and group work; and an individual coaching session with the instructor. The basic course is 1 in-class credit. Students may opt for 2 credits; the second credit is considered an out-of-class credit. Students opting for the 2-credit version of the course will have an additional outside-of-class project separately arranged with the instructor that focuses upon creating a "Profile in Law & Leadership: entry for a new web-based resource designed to assist educators and students. All students will register in the 1-credit class, but may elect, after the first class and with the permission of the instructor, to increase to 2 credits. All materials will be provided electronically without charge, other than that there is a $15 fee that each student will need to pay to complete an assessment exercise for the course called the “DISC” assessment. Each student will receive a customized report to assist in leadership development for this fee and specifics will be discussed in the first course session.

(N.2) LRWA II - Trial Level Writing (Law 097) begins for first-year students in Winter Term. There will be remote assignments during the first week of Winter Term. There will be an in-person LRWA II class offered at multiple times on Thursday, January 13, 2022, that is mandatory for the first-year students. Additional information about the assignments and the class times will be posted on the LRWA I Main Page on Blackboard. Just a reminder, there is no separate PatriotWeb registration first-year students for Winter Term LRWA classes.
