16th Annual Henry G. Manne Faculty Forum
On Friday, August 21, 2026, Antonin Scalia Law School hosted its 16th Annual Henry G. Manne Faculty Forum, an event sponsored by the Law & Economics Center (LEC).
The Manne Forum allows junior Scalia Law faculty a unique opportunity to workshop their latest in-progress scholarship with two official commentators: one scholar invited from another university and one scholar from within the Scalia Law community. Additionally, a roundtable of internal discussants composed of Scalia Law faculty provide critical feedback. The authors use the comments they receive to refine their research and improve their papers before submission for publication.
This year’s Manne Forum featured three junior scholars. Erin Meyers Matsick, Assistant Professor of Law, Antonin Scalia Law School, presented her paper, “The Promise and Perils of Cost-Benefit Analysis in Criminal Justice.” The official commentators were Russell M. Gold, Frank M. Bainbridge-Walter L. Mims Professor of Law, University of Alabama School of Law, and Robert Leider, Professor of Law, Antonin Scalia Law School.
The second paper presented at this year’s Manne Forum was written by Lael Weinberger, Assistant Professor of Law, Antonin Scalia Law School, and titled “Establishing the Religious Corporation: Churches, Religious Disestablishment, and Consent.” The official commentators for Professor Weinberger’s paper were John Inazu, Sally D. Danforth, Distinguished Professor of Law and Religion, Washington University School of Law, and Ross E. Davies, Professor of Law, Antonin Scalia Law School.
Gerald L. Adams III, Assistant Professor of Law, Antonin Scalia Law School, presented the third paper, “Vested Rights, Public Regulation, and the Communications Franchise.” The official commentators were Jim Rossi, Judge D. L. Lansden Chair in Law, Vanderbilt University Law School, and Christopher Newman, Associate Professor of Law, Antonin Scalia Law School.
The Manne Forum is named in honor of Henry G. Manne, the founder of the LEC and dean of the law school from 1986-1997.
