More Than Law Enforcement: The FTC's Many Tools - A Conversation with Tim Muris and Bob Pitofsky

ABSTRACT:

For over nine years, ending in 2004, one of the authors was Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission.  This dialog discusses their largely consistent views regarding the Agency's mission.  They discuss the broad reach of FTC policy across the antitrust and consumer protection landscape.  They emphasize the Commission's important law enforcement mission, while also stressing that the FTC is much more.  The Commission has a vital role in identifying, studying, and being an advocate for consumers regarding crucial public policy issues throughout the economy.
